To live in the Yukon is to experience one of the
most beautiful and untouched natural environments
in Canada. Whitehorse and the rural communities of
the Yukon are celebrated for their uniquely northern
warmth and hospitality. The social, recreational, and
cultural life of the Yukon is rich and vibrant.
One in three adults in the Yukon registers with
the college every year for a training opportunity.
Programming includes university transfer courses in
first- and second-year arts and science, trades and
technology, business and health, tourism and hospitality,
adult basic education, English as a second language
and two partnered undergraduate degree programs in
education and social work.
Programs addressing First Nations self-government
such as the executive leadership and heritage officer
programs are also offered. Community campuses are
vibrant, locally advised centres of learning. Originating
as adult upgrading centres, the community campuses
now offer a broad spectrum of training options that
respond to the expressed needs of business, industry
and government at the local level. More than 40 courses
are delivered via video-conference links with the main
campus in Whitehorse.
Yukon College is an active member in the University
of the Arctic, a partnership of more than 100 universities,
colleges, and indigenous peoples' organizations
from eleven Arctic countries. Using advances in information
technology, northern students are able to take
courses offered by university and college faculty from
the circumpolar world.
