College of the North Atlantic (CNA) is Newfoundland
and Labrador's public college. It is one of the largest
post-secondary educational and skills training centres in
Atlantic Canada, offering more than 100 full-time programs
and more than 300 part-time courses to students
at 17 campuses throughout the province.
World-class curriculum in such program areas as academics,
applied arts, business, engineering technology,
health sciences, industrial trades, information technology,
tourism and natural resources give CNA an opportunity
to cater to the labour market needs of the province
as well as remain responsive in the global arena.
Highly skilled graduates
With more than 40 years of tapping into the
needs of industry to deliver training that makes
a substantial contribution to the labour force in
Canada, it is a natural fit for CNA to provide
the country with highly skilled graduates in a
wide variety of fields. When Newfoundland and
Labrador's Department of Education established
a task force to increase the numbers of skilled
workers, CNA responded by expanding program
offerings such as construction/industrial electrical,
plumber, and heavy equipment operator,
among others.
There has been a greater push on encouraging
more women to train for a career in the skilled
trades. CNA encourages women to avail of such
programs as Career Exploration for Women and
Orientation to Trades and Technology, which
lead to enrolment in regular programming and
success in highly lucrative careers.
And in a precedent-setting partnership with
the Canadian Department of National Defence,
CNA is now training Canada's military in paramedicine,
vehicle technician and culinary arts.
With the depth and breadth of post-secondary
education at College of the North Atlantic, CNA
is sure to have a place for every student.
